Winter is past and with it Christmas. But the message of Christmas remains and reminds us that the Gospel is a message of hope, of joy, and of warmth; it is a message of Spring following Winter. One of the old Christmas hymns reminds us that God sent Christ into the world amid the cold of winter, when the night was half spent. But He sent Him as a Rose whose fragrance would fill the air with sweet- ness and dispel the darkness of the world. In other words, Jesus came to change the course of history and to bring hope back into the world.

Unfortunately, many have yet to hear the glorious promise of the Gospel and to apply it in their families. Many families still huddle inside, imagining that the cold and snow is still on the ground. But it’s not. Christ has come. The winter is past. Spring is come. So let us revel in the sunshine and bring our children out into the open air. Let us pull back the drapes, lift the blinds, and open the windows, inviting the freshness of Spring into our homes and preparing our children to bring hope to the world. Let us raise our children to face the future.
